There are so many fantastic features in the Ram 1500 that you’ll be excused if you ignore its key fob. However, you’re missing out if you overlook this small but handy feature. You’ll be surprised to learn it can do much more than just locking and unlocking your vehicle remotely. Learn all about it with some of the frequently asked questions and answers.
What features does the Ram 1500 key fob have?
The Ram 1500 key fob allows you to lock and unlock your vehicle, including the tailgate, swing gate, lift gate, and trunk. It also allows you to open and close your windows without starting the engine. It’s even possible to control windshield wipers in the accessory mode.
It also has a remote start feature, which means you can start your vehicle from up to 300 feet away. If you don’t get in, the engine will stop automatically after 15 minutes. You don’t need to wait for this cycle to end, though -- if you want to shut it off manually, just press the button three times.
The fob also has a few infotainment options, like accessing your car’s radio and instrument cluster and activating the Run mode. It’s also possible to activate the climate control system with it.
What do the symbols on the fob mean?
The lock/unlock paddles are intuitive, as they activate the lock/unlock feature. The encircled x2 symbol allows you to start and stop the engine remotely. You can trigger the alarm by hitting the Panic button (represented by a trumpet) while you’re within 66 feet of the vehicle. The tailgate can be lowered by hitting the button with the tailgate symbol. It’s also possible to adjust the vehicle’s height with its air suspension - the symbol for this is a ram with an arrow pointing down.
What if the key fob runs out of battery?
If the fob battery runs out, you can start your vehicle manually with the key included on the fob. You’ll just have to do it the old-fashioned way, through the ignition, until you can get the battery replaced.
Is it possible to reprogram my key fob?
Yes, you can. First, trigger the Run mode and hold the Unlock button for 10 seconds. Then, hold down the Panic button until the chime starts again. Then, choose the function that needs reprogramming. Finish the reprogramming by turning the engine off.
